Here is my proposal:
I was going to start a league like this a few years ago, and I informed a couple of you about it, but since I am a terrible head admin, it never got off. But, anyway;
There are 30 teams in the league, just like the real NBA. There are 2 conferences with 3 divisions each, just like the real NBA. When you register to claim a team, you get to chose where your team is located and what your mascot is. After all 30 teams have been made, the admins go in and divide the teams up geographically into the 2 conferences and 3 divisions. Then, for the rest of the league's life, the team location and names stick, and it is an entirely unique league.
However, this would have to be a fantasy draft league for obvious reasons... which I'm not sure if Boston wants to do (although they are really fun!)
Newer teams like the Thunder, Magic, Timberwolves I can see it happening.
And teams with crap names like the Bobcats, Grizzlies, Bucks etc. maybe add the Nets to that too, hehe.
I'm always against fantasy drafts though, they level the playing field too much and, bizarrely enough, that does tend to be a bad thing in sim leagues.
How about we combine the two. To start the Celtics, Lakers, Bulls, Knicks, Pistons, Spurs, Nets are untouchable, if you pick them that is your team but all other teams and locations can change.
To circumvent a fantsy draft you claim rosters. So I could sign up as the Vancouver Vikings and claim the Orlando Magic roster. They are now moved to Vancouver but retain their players. First come first serve and we go from there.
I also think the league should start at the beginning of this off-season, none of this Miami Superteam crap. Plus off-seasons are really fun.
